In my last post, I talked about going to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Read my previous post here. Talk about breath taking! This place has a special place in my heart. Waking up to the nice cool breeze, hearing the waves go on throughout the night, and listing to the coqui frogs sing all night. The picture above shows the place we stayed at. Awesome! but expensive as heck! (Worth it) Virgin Gorda is located in the British Virgin Islands. The BVI is located right by Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
The entire trip takes about 12 hours to get to the BVI. I flew out of SFO (San Francisco International) and my first stop was in Houston, TX. I had a 2 hour layover to eat, relax, and stretch around. After the layover we get on the plane and make our way to our next layover which is in San Juan, Puerto Rico. When we get to San Juan, we had to take a private plan to enter the BVI. We took a small plane that seats eight and headed off to Virgin Gorda.

When we land at Virgin Gorda, we have to do paper for customs because it is located in the British Virgin Islands. At this time I am exhausted and the first thing I want to do is go and lay on a hammock. When we get to our place, I was taken away about how great this place was.

The picture above shows a cove we stopped at to go snorkeling. I got to see some of the most colorful fish here! I even saw three stingrays here and that made my day. This place was great. I love to eat! I had a blast trying every sort of fish I could get my hands on. We went to a shore in Josh Van Dyke and went to a bar called Soggy Dollar which is a place in the BVI. This bar is famous for a drink they made called the painkiller. The painkiller is made from rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice, topped with fresh Grenadian nutmeg. The best part about this bar is you can’t drive to it! You can only get there by boat. You have to park your boat and drop the anchor and swim over to the bar.
We had the opportunity to visit Necker island (Richard Bransons island) and spend the day boating, swimming, and jumping out of abandoned pirate ships. Here is a link from Travel+Leisure about Necker island. A lot of time was spent outside on this trip. Spraying sunscreen on every two hours, eating fruit, and snorkeling around the island.
Overall, this trip was great. I was so honored to be able to have an opportunity like this. British Virgin Islands has a special place in my heart. I loved the environment, culture, and how relaxed everything was. If you are ever in the BVI’s please go drink a painkiller at the Soggy Dollar!
